Question 1:
This question tells you which document you are about to create.
The program will allow you to write seven different documents, so
it is important that you chose the correct one for your purposes.
A General Power of Attorney enables you to give power to another
person to take care of your affairs. Note that it will not be
effective after your death, but can help you arrange matters should
you be otherwise unavailable or away.
Question 2:
You should enter your complete name here so it will be clear who is
creating this document.
Question 3:
You can write a joint Power of Attorney to give someone the ability
to legally take care of the affairs of both you and your husband or
wife.
Question 4:
If you have chosen to execute this document in conjunction with
your spouse, then you should enter his or her name.
Question 5:
In order to ensure who is creating this document, your address
needs to be entered. Here, you should enter just the number and
street (apartment if applicable) since you will have an opportunity
in later questions to enter the City, Town, etc. for where you
live.
Question 6:
Please enter the City or Town where you live. If you do not live
in a City or Town, please enter the post office address used to
reach you.
Question 7:
Some persons do not live in a County or Parish, and thus the
program asks you if you do.
Question 8:
Here, you should enter the name of the County or Parish where you
live.
Question 9:
The State or Territory needs to be entered to fully define your
address.
Question 10:
You may name anyone that you trust to be your attorney. The person
does not have to be a lawyer. You may also name someone who does
not live in your state, so long as they have access to do anything
that becomes necessary for them to do. You are giving a great deal
of power and control to the person you name in this document as
your attorney, and thus should be sure about the person named here.
Question 11:
The full address of the person named as the attorney needs to be
entered here. You should enter just the number and street
(apartment if applicable) since you will have an opportunity in
later questions to enter the City, Town, etc. for where the
attorney lives.
Question 12:
Please enter the City or Town where the attorney lives. If he or
she does not live in a City or Town, please enter the post office
address that he or she uses.
Question 13:
Some persons do not live in a County or Parish, and thus the
program asks if the attorney does. If you are unsure, then answer
this question in the negative.
Question 14:
Here, you can enter the name of the County or Parish where the
attorney lives.
Question 15:
Here, you can enter the name of the State or Territory where the
attorney lives.
Question 16:
Here, you have the right to specify when the Power of Attorney will
take effect, and when it will end. This question is to be used
when you have a specific date in mind that you wish the Power to
end. The next question will allow you to have the Power end on the
happening of a specific event.
Question 17:
This question allows the user to designate a specific event upon
which the Power of Attorney will terminate.
Question 18:
This question simply specifies the date when the Power will start.
You should use a date, since in some states it is illegal to have a
Power of Attorney that starts on the happening of a specific event.
If your desire is have the Power start at some specific time, then
contact your lawyer to find out if it will be enforceable in your
state.
Question 19:
If the Power of Attorney will expire on a certain date then that
day needs to be specified.
Question 20:
Please specify the event that will cause the termination of this
Power of Attorney. For example you can enter "when I get back from
Europe."
Question 21:
You have completed all of the questions. You can now print the
finished document, write it to a file, preview it to see that it is
correct or any combination of the above. Note, that you can return
to any question to change the answer by pressing "Esc" now.
